Unique August month of 2010

The August month of 2010 has an interesting observation. The number of sundays, monday and tuesdays is same as 5. This is a unique phenomenon which happens once in 823 years.

With just few more days left for the month to get over, feel privileged of living the moments of this month.

EDIT: The entry has been edited to remove the fact of 823 years occurrence. Thanks Chavi for pointing it out.

2010 full moon transitions

The month of January in 2010 witnessed brightest moon of the year ahead. Statistically the moon was 30% brighter than any other full moon day. The size also was 14% bigger.

Homo sapien and other species on planet earth saw this astronomical phenomenon on January 30th. I did not want to miss the series of shapes which led to the moon being far brighter and bigger.

Below image gives you an idea of the transition of moon in the 2 weeks prior to it achieving the full size.

The image has been scaled heavily to accommodate in this region which is a series of 9 individual photos. If you would like to own a non-copyrighted image of any individual moon shape and size or the biggest version, feel free to contact me. I will be happy to give you a good offer once I get to know its intended usage.

Moon photo using canon 100-400 L IS

The following days will have some experimental shots posted using the canon 100 400 L IS lens which was recently purchased for Christmas.

Below is one of the first shots from New year night’s moon in sky. This is also the first time I have been able to achieve something similar. In my past attempts, the exposure has either been too low or too high.

Hopefully in times to come, I will have more control over shooting such subjects.Enjoy the shot taken on a Canon 40D.

Technical Details:

1/125 sec @ f/5.6 with no exposure compensation

ISO 200

Focal Length: 380mm

Domain www.cafewildlife.com pocketed

A Christmas shopping time and the upcoming Tanzania Safari vacation prompted me to buy a domain name www.cafewildlife.com. The name sounded good to me and there was a deal going on and hence swiped the plastic money to buy it.

I am currently not sure of what needs to be done but the name is attractive enough for people to easily remember it and come back to it. The content and other hosting details need to be sorted out soon.

If you got some suggestions feel free to comment.

Post processing wonders

No Comments yet, your thoughts are welcome

Adobe Lightroom is an excellent piece of software for a photographer like me. I have watched training videos of Chris Orwig from lynda.com and since then have added Lightroom to my post processing workflow.

A beautiful workflow which eases out the processing and reduces time increasing the efficiency. I will show you an example below which I have submitted for the HP Nature challenge contest.

It is an image from the ruined south Indian city of Dhanushkoti which got washed away in the floods in 1960. The light was uneven due to cloudy weather near the sun and the exposure setting were playing tricks with me.

I managed to capture the image but the essence and colors did not come standing out. I thought of processing it recently using Lightroom 2.5 and below is the result after processing which took me maximum 30 minutes.

Feel free to send me comments to improve the processing.
