Ranganthittu bird sanctuary is located around 130 km from Bangalore on way to Mysore in Mandya district. It is a paradise for bird watchers and also a good place for migratory birds.
The birds can be seen all year around with more concentration around the winter season from Oct to March when the eggs are being laid and then hatching by April time. As soon as the monsoon season arrives around June till August, the birds take safe place and sightings can be difficult.
It opens for public at 9:00 am and there is huge rush for boating in lake where one can go very close to birds. Bird photographers can been seen around in this lake with huge lenses with pin drop silence except for shutter clicks. There are few crocodiles in the lake but they seem to be harmless which is very surprising for me as they are huge in size. They can be spotted catching birds in flight which is a dream shot.
A must visit place for any bird watcher or photographer. This travel was done in February beginning 2010.
